Ministry to the Margins

Scriptures for January 31 Sermon came from Isaiah 61:1-2 and Luke 4:21-30.

In His first sermon at his hometown of Nazareth, Jesus affirmed Isaiah 61:1-2. His purpose as God’s Son and Savior was to provide Hope, Healing and Hospitality to those people, especially “Gentiles,” on the margins or edges of society. He was sent to minister to the poor, the blind, the impaired, those in prison, and those who have been oppressed in any way. This is tough ministry which requires God’s kind of Agape Love. So, the Church (us) are the 21st century Disciples of Christ and we are to be the hands and feet of Jesus no matter how tough the ministry. We hear and remember Jesus’ words from Matthew 25:40 “Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it for me.” Our faith should be risky, not safe. Let’s Go Be The Church in our world!
